Reluctant aspirants against online format for jee main 2014 .

Less demand for Online Examination for jee main 2014

There had been a decrease in registration for the online test of JEE(Main) 2014, where the numbers reduced to 1.71 lakh, from 1.74 lakh, as of 2013. This shows a negative acceptance towards the growth of online format of the jee main examination system , which records quite a huge number of aspirants each year. This year alone 13.56 lakh students have registered for the JEE(Main) examinations, which is scheduled to start from 6th of April this year. Click here for Exam dates of JEE(Main).

The computer-based test format along with the old-school paper-pen test format has been introduced by the CBSE in 2011. Since then the popularity for the format has hardly increased among the increasing number of aspirants, which is strongly depicted in the least number of registrants for this format, in 2014 JEE(Main) exams. The JEE(Main) exam score, with Class 12/ PUC 2nd year score will let students get admissions in NIT’s, BIT’s and other top technical colleges throughout India. Among all the scorers in this test, top 1.5 lakh students will be eligible to take the JEE(Advanced) examinations, which will open the doors to the premier technical institutions in India, the IIT’s, IISc’s. There are sixteen institutes located at Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, Patna, Ropar, Roorkee and Varanasi as per The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.

The number of aspirants taking the online format of the JEE(main) has gradually gone up from 4,900 in the first year of its inception, to 1.96 lakhs the year after, whereas 2013 showed a gradual decrease to 1.74 lakhs, and finally to 1.71 lakhs in 2014. The Central Board of Secondary Education had initial plans to do away with the paper-pen test, but the gradual reluctance among the aspirants, who preferred the old format as compared to online format, has forced CBSE to re-think. Students preferred to travel to distant locations to appear for the paper-pen test, rather than appearing for the online test, which had test centers located in main city’s across the country.

A brighter side for this test was also introduced as, this year JEE(Main) examinations will be conducted in Gujarati, Marathi and Urdu languages, along with usual English language. Native language aspirants numbers to:

  • 60,000 – Gujarati
  • 954 – Marathi
  • 337 – Urdu

The states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa has also joined the JEE(Main) this year. More insight, click here.
