Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), formerly Manipal University, started its operations in 1953 with a self-financing medical college. It was declared a Deemed to be University by the Government of India in June 1993, and was designated an Institution of Eminence by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in October 2020.Engineering programmes are offered through its constituent Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, and nursing programmes through Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal. MAHE states that admission to all MIT B.Tech programmes and to MCON’s B.Sc Nursing is through the Manipal Entrance Test (MET).
