Along with the Common Entrance Test(CET) and the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) examinations, aspirants have to go through other online examinations being organized by deemed private institutes, from 2014. 3 top private institutes have received the private university status from the State Government of Higher Education in Karnataka. Out of three, 2 universities are planning to go ahead with their private entrance examinations for the upcoming professional year 2014-2015, for all under-graduate/post-graduate courses.

CEO of PES Institutions, D. Jawahar has confirmed that admissions to PES Institute of Technology (PESIT) would be done through the national-level entrance test conducted by the institute. “We are now a private university and everything that will be done in 2014 will be different. The Private University Act applies to us. PESIT, for the engineering courses, will not use either the CET or COMED-K. The national-level entrance test will determine even for the 40 per cent seats that the private varsities are mandated to give to State students,” he added.

As per the orders from the supreme court, 50% of the seats will be under reservations category, 35% will go to open merit students, whereas 15% of the seats will go under NRI category.

M. Dhananjaya, Dean, Student Affairs, Reva University, said a national-level entrance test will be conducted for four engineering courses: electrical, computer science, mechanical and civil. “We are planning to conduct the test soon after the COMED-K to facilitate those who write that test to attend the Reva entrance test,” he added. All aspect will be considered before arriving at a conclusion for the fees structure in the forthcoming year.

Aspirants should get ready to face a steep challenge ahead of them as there are a growing number of Entrance Examinations being introduced each year, and naturally their dates are bound to clash against some of the well known nation wide entrance exams. Choice would solely depend on their goal set. Studying in top private colleges would be a tough job.
